Summary

Join our journey to stimulate the senses, with an emphasis on learning about and sharing in the Italian way of life. Where you’ll meet our friends in Italy and make new ones in your traveling companions. It is a ten-day escape, to explore, discover and reflect. This is a sojourn just for women travelers.

Florence, is the cradle of the Renaissance, and famous for some of the world's most celebrated artists, architects and scientists. Today it remains a vibrant city rich in culture, heritage and craft. Where artisans still flourish and traditions from centuries ago are found in the workshops, kitchens and homes of its residents. It is here we start our trip and spend three days delving into its treasures.

While in the city we will eat with the locals, sip an aperitivo, explore the Sant' Ambrogio Market and visit with local artisans. We will discover the renaissance art of the lesser-known female artists in the Vasari corridor, the secret hallway of the Medici family to the Uffizi Museum.  We will also explore the Oltrarno neighborhood, which possesses a uniquely Florentine atmosphere of art and artisans.   We will learn from about their dedication to handmade crafts.

From the city we travel south through Chianti, a land of agriculture, wine production and rich heritage. Visiting with our friends along the way, learning about their lives and their land, we will encounter women such as Nora the Cashmere goat farmer or Diana the Chianti Classico winemaker. The road less traveled will lead us to our country house in the heart of Crete Senesi where we enjoy the warm welcome of our Italian hosts, Paolo and Silvia at Podere Salicotto.

From here we explore the countryside of southern Tuscany and the tapestry of artisans who call this area home. This is a land of spectacular scenery, stunning medieval villages and rich culinary traditions. We will visit iconic Tuscan towns as well as some lesser known gems.

Our sojourn meanders with new experiences every day. With hands on lessons in traditional food making, tasting world famous wines, learning about cheese production, or the work of leather and mosaic artisans to name a few. Each encounter with our local experts will be an authentic and memorable experience.

Traveling in an unhurried fashion we will enjoy the places we stay, the people we meet and the towns and villages we visit.
